    East Baton Rouge Parish Library

    Do you know that the East Baton Rouge Parish Library holds records on Federal census of the United States on microfilm dating back from 1790 till 1900? That's not even half of what you will find at the genealogy department. With the library's vast collection of printed and non-print materials, it definitely exceeds any citizen's expectations.

    The East Baton Rouge Parish Library is proud of its huge array of print resources. It is home to more than one million books and magazines, as well as non-print collection that will surely satisfy the interests of each user. Readers will be fascinated with its best-selling fiction and classic materials, and its wide choices of non-fiction properties too.

    The most sought-after children and adult materials are generally found in East Baton Rouge Parish Library's Audio-Visual Collection. These are: non-fiction movies and videos in DVD and VHS formats, music CDs, and books recorded on CDs and cassettes.

    A Specials Collection can also be found at the Baton Rouge Parish Library, which consists of the following: Louisiana Collection, Louisiana and Local Government Documents, Black Heritage Collection, Genealogy Collection, Foundation Center Cooperating Grants Collection, Baton Rouge Room, The Advocate Cookbook Collection, Braille Books for Children, Vertical File, Microfilm Collection, Business Collection, and Automobile Repair.

    Opened in 1967, the Main Library of the East Baton Rouge Parish Library occupies two floors with a total area equivalent to 65,000 square feet. It does not only serve as a book warehouse, but it also has spaces for exhibits, conference room with 35-people capacity, and an auditorium that seats 75 people.

    East Baton Rouge Parish Library is open from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm from Mondays till Thursdays; from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays; and from 2:00 pm till 10:00 pm on Sundays.

    The library card is free to residents of or those who have properties in East Baton Rouge Parish, but replacements cards are charged $1.00 each. A child, who is beyond eight years old, may enter the library without adult companion. Otherwise, they must have one of their parents or an adult guardian with him.

    The services offered by the East Baton Rouge Parish Library are the following: Reference Services; Children's Services; Young Adult Services; Adult Services; Computer Services; Interlibrary Loan; Programs, Classes and Events; Meeting Rooms; Summer Reading Clubs; Outreach; and Career Center.

    The East Baton Rouge Parish Library is not just the place for self-confessed bookworms. The library's numerous audiovisual and other non-print resources make it an interesting venue for creative learning as well.
